Orchard Beach was and is a famous summer resort area. Horatio Alger, Jr.visited frequently. The hardcover register is bound and recently refurbished. It measures 10" x 15" and contains about 85 pages. Very good condition.  Alger signed the register twice as a guest. His sister, Augusta Cheney, and brother-in-law, Amos Cheney, also appear. Altogether, nearly 2,000 registrant signatures are recorded for the summer of 1886.   In 1974, Ralph Gardner wrote an article about the register and noted the many Boston and New York society registrants.
