Description
ORSTON BOOKS PRESENTS.... NORTHERN LIGHTS PHILIP PULLMAN SCHOLASTIC (POINT) 1995 UK FIRST EDITION/FIRST PRINTING **VERY SCARCE SIGNED FIRST EDITION** ***1 OF ONLY 1000 PRINTED***     I am delighted to offer for auction the very rare first book in his award winning Dark Materials trilogy.Published in 1995 the initial print run for this book was limited to just 1000 alot of which went to libraries. This one i am pleased to say wasnt one of them hence it remains in excellent condition and a real collectors piece. The condition is as follows... The book:Bound in original maroon cloth boards this is a very good copy. The boards generally remain clean and fresh and more importantly they are nice and square as alot have a slight lean to them. The spine tips are quite sharp although there are signs of light crushing which again is common.Asides a coupld of light marks to the boards they remain in nice clean condition with bright gilt titles to the spine.Internally the book is immaculate throughout free from owner names or inscriptions with bright clean endpapers and leaves.I am happy to say that although the page edges are slightly off white they dont suffer the usual yellowing/discolouration that is so often found with these first editions. The book has been signed via a cut to the title page which doesnt cover anything as can be seen by the photo i have held up to the light. It has been signed this way as the official Pullman bookplate presents a little crudely and is rather oversized to stick in a book.No numberline to the copyright page as should be with the true first. All in all a very well presented and clean example of this book. The Dustjacket:This is the correct jacket for the book and has all associated first issue points needed for the first edition.POINT is clearly present to the base of the spine which can only be found on the earlier printings as this was changed to scholastic and more importantly the address to the rear inner flap states Point 7-9 Pratt Street which can be found on the first printing only. The jacket is again in very good condition.Free from loss with the odd minute wrinkle and fading to the spine.Generally very clean in appearence and unclipped with the correct price of £10.99.   All in all this is one of the better examples of this very rare book which has a price guide value of £3000-£4000.Certainly one for the collectors and a real masterpiece to own following the likes of Tolkien, etc. Good luck and please take some time to browse my other items for many more collectable first editions from this author and many more.
