THIS AUCTION IS FOR "HOLLAND HOUSE" (11 6/8 x 8 7/8) by Princess Marie Liechtenstein Bound in publisher's 1/4 dark blue morocco with brilliant blue cloth, covers have gilt & black stampings with heraldic devices picturing fox heads, spine is elaborately gilt with lettering and heraldic devices, top edge gilt, overall a clean tight copy in almost near fine condition and rarely found as nice as this copy. London: Macmillan and Co., 1874. A history and physical description of the residence of the Holland family in Kensington, London. Built in 1606, the mansion was bought in 1767 by English politician Henry Fox, first Baron Holland [1705-1774], and was made famous in the first forty years of the nineteenth century by the hospitality of Henry Fox, 3d Baron Holland, and his wife. Reformers such as Jeremy Bentham, Samuel Romilly, and Henry Brougham; scientists such as Michael Faraday and Humphry Davy; writers such as Thomas Moore, George Byron, and Sir Walter Scott, and statesmen such as William Melbourne, George Canning, and Henry Palmerston were frequent guests at the famous dinners at Holland House. The Marriott family Crest, and the name "William Marriott" present on the inside of the front boards. In this work Princess Marie presents the historic Holland House -built in the early 1600s. Wonderfully adorned and in near fine condition, these volumes contain illustrations, Steel Plates, Lithographs, tissue guarded Wood-Engravings by C.H. Jeens including the frontispieces "Princess Marie Liechtenstein" Volume I "Miss Mary Fox" Volume II Liechtenstein- Princess Marie Liechtenstein. Five Steel Engravings by C. H.
