NO EXCHANGES Lorenzo Boturini Benaducci (1702-1753) was an Italian historian and antiquarian of New Spain (name Spanish Empire holdings in North America) who suffered the injustices of colonial America through the Spanish establishment and Inquisition. In 1746 he published “Idea de una Nueva Historia General de la América Septentrional” in Madrid, Spain. In it he describes the history of what is currently Mexico up to that time. He begins with a description of the native Indian tribes, symbols and their customs. He also does his best to describe some of the geography at the time. Much of the information conveyed in this book was researched by Boturini himself and remains an important surviving source of colonial history since most of Boturini’s research had been confiscated and partially destroyed by the Inquisition.
