Faulkner claimed it was a "potboiler" written purely for profit, but this has been debated by scholars and Faulkner's own personal friends. (From Wikipedia)  See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanctuary_%28novel%29The dust jacket lists 344 available Modern Library titles and a price of $1.25.  This indicates that it is from a later printing, most likely in the mid-late 1940's.  This edition is bound in handsome blue cloth with red and gold accents.The book itself is in spectacular shape, with no fading or staining of the cloth and no dented corners.  There is some extremely minor shelf wear on the bottom edges of the cover, but it is hardly noticeable.  The pages are all tight and exceptionally clean.  All told, the book itself is in near mint condition while the dust jacket is easily very good.  The signature is in blue ink, and appears to have been signed with a fountain pen.  Compare to these samples: http://services.tomfolio.com/tfsigs/f/FaulknerWilliam.jpgI can provide the knowledge I have of the providence of the book upon request.  To my knowledge only THREE copies of Sanctuary have been sold since 1975.  It is exceedingly rare to find a signed copy of this novel.  Faulkner was extremely displeased with Sanctuary, and seemed at times to disown the novel.  He was,accordingly, very reluctant to sign his name to it.  Furthermore, he rarely signed anything outside of the signed limited editions of many of his other novels.  He feared that being too loose with the pen would devalue his signature, and thus one of his major sources of income.  As such, Sanctuary is an exceedingly rare book to find signed, particularly in the absence of one of the afore mentioned limited edition runs.  Feel free to contact me with any questions whatsoever, and happy bidding!
