Content: This is an very rare 1st edition of Wizard of Oz - The Original Story on which the Film was based by Frank Baum. The Wizard of Oz is a 1939 musical fantasy film produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The film is based on L. Frank Baum's 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, in which a resourceful girl from United States is snatched up by a Kansas tornado and deposited in a fantastic land of good and wicked witches, a talking scarecrow, a cowardly lion, a tin man, and more. It stars Judy Garland, Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr, Billie Burke and Margaret Hamilton. Despite its age, and intent as a musical fable for children, the film continues to generate a cult following, and retains its status as one of the most beloved feature films of all time. Lyman Frank Baum (May 15, 1856–May 6, 1919) was an American author, actor, and independent filmmaker best known as the creator, along with illustrator W. W. Denslow, of one of the most popular books ever written in American children's literature, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, better known today as simply The Wizard of Oz. He wrote thirteen sequels, nine other fantasy novels, and a plethora of other works. With Line Illustrations by W.W. Denslow & 8 Colour Stills from the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Film. Condition: Extremely rare dust-jacket good/excellent condition; 5 cm split front top left-hand corner, small 3cm triangular piece missing from rear bottom right-hand corner, very small 5mm pieces missing from corners, minor creases/splits/wear to corners/edges, minor mark, price-clipped (inside removable protective sleeve). Hardback excellent condition; very minor splits top/bottom of spine, very minor wear to corners. Pages excellent condition; marks when pages viewed top on (page faces unaffected), spilt along spine between front/rear inside covers & first/last blank pages exposing spine webbing (some loss of rigidity), minor marks to first/last 2 pages, remaining page faces very clean & bright.
